Haven't been here for awhile, but just finished up my mailbox mod for my MES 40.  Seems to work well.  Have been using the mailbox for awhile now, but just finished putting the smoker on the base and attaching the mailbox.  Actually, it's not attached, but just resting in case I have to move it for some reason.

FYI, that thing to the left of the smoker is the side of my gas grill that I wasn't smart enough to make sure didn't look like it was part of the smoker when I took the photo.

Thank you, I appreciate it.  I did not take the chip box out, only the chip tray so the smoke would flow out easier.  Didn't want so much direct heat going up either, and didn't want to worry about drippings getting on the element if anything missed the drip tray going to the drip pan.  I used all 3" fittings for the mailbox mod and the chimney.  Good luck.

so your 3" pipe doesnt come into your smoker cabinet an inch or 2. the reason i say that is with mine i have a lip that stops the pipe flush with the inside. that lip must something to do with the chip loader. i think i will pull it out and make another piece of metal to cover the element as a drip pan/heat diffuser.

i actually have mine on a cart and have been using a masterbuilt cold smoke unit piped in with a 3" pipe but it just isnt sealed enough. i use some metal furnace tape for the seal. i have a turkey roaster mod for my big freezer build i did (no mail boxes here) but want to be able to use either smoke gen on it.

thanks for your answer..

No problem. The "pipe" going into the cabinet only goes in maybe 1/4" or so because it is blocked by the chip tray assembly. I was worried about it leaking, but it doesn't.
