I have decided that im done F***ing with my mes40 (im tired of constantly doing mods to it and still unsatisfied with its performance) so im going to get a pellet grill.  Im only concerned with using it for smoking and i think i have narrowed it down to the Yoder640 and the MAK 1 Star.  I have searched all over regarding "best pellet Smoker" and from what i have found it comes down to personal preference and electronic control/software.  So like the title states put the nail in the coffin and final the deal on the Yoder or point me in the direction of a better one within the same price point.

Thank you

This is why God invented credit... Just get it! See problem solved... OOOORRRRR RecTec is offering 24 months same as cash with their cooker. I absolutely love mine and would only get something else if I was going bigger.

I'd be interested in this as well although I cringe at the prices + probably another 200 S&H to me. The gold awards given to the Mak might give it the edge over the Yoder although I only know of one member here using a Mak. I've seen the youtube vids of the Yoder in action and it's impressive. Compared to using a MES I'm thinking Lincoln Towncar compared to a Hugo.....

Yeah, I'm looking real hard at the RT...that credit deal really sweetens up that deal. Many here have them & I trust Reds opinion on them. I do believe their grill surface is a bit larger than the others (?), at least the Mak. Good reviews on most other forums as well.....Willie

I just got my '640 on Monday, so I have no cooking experience to pass on. I can say that everything I read here (and elsewhere) about the sturdy construction is absolutely true. This is a finely crafted cooker that shows the thought that went into the design, and the care that was taken in it's construction.

I will start by saying i don't have a lot of money but have managed to put some away for awhile, im concerned about price but i already have the money saved and im ready to get it so im not concerned about financing.  I have been researching the pellet grills for awhile the closest yoder dealer is 136miles from me so i really don't want to drive all that way and be disappointed.  I'm hesitant because that's a sh%t ton of money to be spending on a grill and don't want to have any regrets.  Hugo to Lincoln town car nice!!!

LOL.....yes, it IS a s***@@@@ of money, I agree, so if you're married you better roll out some awesome chow to justify the expense....LOL. I'm torn...it's only me & the GF so might be overkill for a grill on my part, after I just got a smoker less than a year ago.....

Im married and right now dont have any kids but like having parties and cooking.  I don't want to order one so i don't have to pay the shipping and because i don't want the wife to know exactly how much im spending on the grill as im sure she would find a more practical use for the money (shes on a need to know basis and doesn't need to know)

The differences I'm concerned about are reliability and the set it and forget factor. The MAK computer seems to have more functions, but I'm not sure I need them. The three temp probes would be nice though. The 1 Star cooking area seems a bit smaller than the Yoder 640.

VM i agree with you as these are my concerns as well and im not sure i need the additional programs as well.  We will see if this topic picks up as people start getting off work and chime in.  If it doesn't i will let you know how the yoder works because i will be going to get it Saturday AM.  Another question for current Yoder owners is if i should get the Thermal Jacket im in central Illinois and it does get cold (i think the high today was 42) and i plan on using this year round.

Hey shootitnsmokeit-

I've had a yoder for about 3 mos now, and love it. I'm in MN, so we both have the same awful stuff headed our way shortly. I got a tip from a well-respected person in the industry, he went to a welding shop & bought a welding blanket that he throws over his. Cost about $35, and works great, he says. I'm gonna try that b4 I shell out all that dough for the yoder one. Just my 2 cents, enjoy your new toy!!

I was looking at both and ended up going with the yoder640, and I'm glad I did. I have had 3 good cooks so far, and it's built better then I hoped. It's a smoker that I think could be my last. Good luck

I've had my Yoder 640 for a little over 2 years now and I LOVE it.  Just me in the household, so ya it's a bit overkill at times but load it up with a batch of Salmon or Beef Jerky and then it's just right.  Or throw half a dozen racks of ribs in for a gathering.  It has done everything I've ever asked it to do and the couple of times I've had problems the company stood behind the product with no questions.  I'd buy another on in a heart beat.

LMAO.....I hear ya brother. 'need to know basis'.....funny stuff. Better get it b4 any youngun's start to appear on the horizon because after that you'll always be sorta broke.....just sayin' .....and let the good times roll.......Willie

Made an appointment for today at 4 to go get it hopefully it's everything I want. Wife has her suspicions as she saw the gps sitting on the counter this morning and asked where I was going. I told her one of the guys I work with needed to barrow it. Haha she sure is going to be surprised when I show up home with it. I'm good as long as she doesn't google it and find out how much they cost and even if she does too late to return it.

Hmmmmm, I think you're toast, but that's just MO....lol. Her warning flags are already up, she WILL goggle it and know you fibbed about everything. But, I'm looking forward to your adventure pics during the unpacking and breaking in.

Better bring all the fuel you need and have something rubbed and ready to go on the grill so you can "mess" it up, to guarantee no returns. Congrats on the new toy.
