Porterhouse For A Change

Yes, it's been years since I had a Porterhouse Steak!!
I've been buying Standing Rib (choice) and Ribeyes for $4.99 for so long, I haven't bought anything else, but this time I splurged for a lesser cut of beef for $5.99.

So I kept it simple, and just marinated it in "Ken's Honey Teriyaki Marinade" for a few hours, and then to the preheated "Q".

The taste was definitely good, and the Tenderloin Side was very tender (Like my Ribeyes), but the Top Loin side was on the tough side, which just confirms my reason for never ordering a NY Strip at a restaurant.

Mrs Bear made the Roasted Reds to balance the plate.

Thanks for looking,
Bear

Nice looking steak, Bear. I love the sear.

I like a porterhouse but they are a lot of beef for an old guy like me.

Hello Bear.  GREAT LOOKIN STEAKS!!!  That is always the trade off with porterhouse isn't it?  The loin side has a good flavor but hard to get tender.  I try to serve mine more to the rare side but it only helps a little.  I prefer ribeyes myself.  Have a funny story for you.  Took the wife to the best steak restaurant in my area of England ( within 25 miles ).  I ordered their ribeye, waiter asked " Sir you are aware that the ribeye is a fatty cut of beef"?  RIBEYE FATTY??  I can only assume from that there had been complaints about ribeye steaks.  On a porterhouse they trim all the fat off over here.  In fact almost no cut of beef in a restaurant here comes with any fat.  The British public seems to have also lost the understanding of marbling.  Breaks your heart.  Also porterhouse ( while making a comeback ) and any other cut of beef with bone in is hard to get because of the mad cow thing that happened a while back.  Just thought I'd throw out that useless info if anyone was interested.  Good lookin meal.  Keep Smokin!

I have some Ribeyes that I got on sale in the freezer....you are making me want to pull out Black Betty and get her working this weekend.

Looks delish as always!

I wish was "stuck with" standing rib roasts and ribeyes for $4.99/lb. Even on sale, the best we usually see is $6.99, and that's pretty rare. Pardon the pun.

Looks nice Bear, and methinks Mrs Bear is spoiling yas.........

Like the others I used to love a porterhouse (we got 'em for T-bones when I was a kid), now its just too much food cause I still have that macho streak in me where I just can't go to sleep at night if there is still meat on that bone....LOL

Looks like a happy happy evening at Casa BearCarver

Thanks Danny!!!

Ought to be a law against trimming the fat off a steak before cooking & serving it !!!

It's really strange around here:

Choice Standing Rib goes on sale a couple times a year @ $4.99, and none of the other steaks ever go that low. That's why I had to pay $5.99 for Porterhouse on sale. All the others run from about $6.99 to $14.99, but I don't care. LOL I'm quite Happy with $4.99 Prime Rib and Ribeyes.
