Yesterday I did a big [6 kilo] bacon smoke and was exposed to a lot of smoke, as the top of my smoker is at eye level and I got a facefull of smoke every time I opened the door to peek.

This morning my left eye was stuck tight and when I finally pried it open with water, I got this terrible pain from exposure to any lind of light.  I used some antibiotic and anti inflammatory drops and it slowly got better.

Just wondering if any other smokers have experienced this???

If you have smoked many times before and have not had problems until now, then I think you got an eye infection.

Go see an eye doctor soon.

Also, be careful with washing, and the use of towels, you may infect the other eye, or others in your family.

Eye infections are extremely contagious!!!

If you had to Pry it open, and you didn't partaketh too much last might you may have pinkeye.

When I get smoke on me, I have to lock the doors to get any sleep, all those women .......... They just go wild about that smokey smell!! I am not as young as I used to be, 7 or 8 times in one night now seems to be my limit, not like when I was younger!

Jack, morning.....   Bad deal...   Are you using a different wood that could have caused the irritation???

Afternoon Dave,

Using the same wood that I normally use but maybe got carried away with too much smoke.  At any rate, I spent the whole day inside the dark house and couldn't even look at my pc monitor or TV without pain, but after it got dark, the pain went away.

This has happened to me before......just one day of pain and light sensitivity and the antibiotic/antihistimine drops seem to help. I did have my head in the heavy smoke on several occasions and maybe over dosed on smoke.

Neighbor had a suggestion that sounded good.....wearing swimming goggles when sticking my head in the smoke.

One funny article I stumbled across when I was googling eye damage from smoke and found a site that said that wood smoke is more harmful than 2nd hand cigarette smoke and equaled one log of smoke from a log of wood to almost 20 cigs.  I will try to find that and post if I can.   Did find a lot of confirming info that smoke CAN damage your eyes, especially in the elderly.

Doing another smoke today and will be super cautious about exposure.......

Thanks all for input.

That is a new one on me too. I don't doubt you or the article you speak of but I have never had your symptoms. Just some slight stinging if I get a face full opening the door...JJ

I also have the very same problem, they beat a path to my door when the smoker comes out.
