Over a wood fire in 5 easy steps.

1. Put dog on stick and spiral cut. Place over open fire with Oak or your fav hard wood.

2. Rotate stick until dog is cooked to your liking.

3. Slide dog from the stick into bun.

4. Prepare dog.

5. "Nobody BUT Nobody puts ketchup on a hot dog" Harry Callahan

Eat and enjoy.

Can you make your own hotdogs?  The only ones I've ever tried over here in the UK, come out of a tin or jar, it's one of the reasons I'd like to visit the US.
