Yay!  Have fun with your day of canning, Kat!  Nothing is more satisfying that looking at a pantry shelf filled with homemade canned food!

Pickling cukes and cherries are in season here now.  Over the last week I canned 10 pints of dill pickles, 6 pints of break & butter pickles, and 7 pints of brandied cherries. I keep opening up my pantry to admire them!

Have a great day!  Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

Clarissa....it is fun to see them lined up on the counter.  I haven't done pickles yet....thinking about doing some chow-chow with my cabbages and green tomatoes.  Going to try some fermented kraut with the Fall cabbages.

Will show them later.  Show pics!!!

Those beans look nice - too bad they would kill me

Is your container a Halloween container by any chance?

I got this thing at Walmart earlier in the Spring.  Hubby is a Tennesse Fan (orange) and I am a Auburn Fan (orange again)....just liked the color.  Halloween Container for Candy is a Witches Pot!

I would love to find about 2 more of these.  When I go to the garden...the handles are great for lugging back the goodies.

Not that it means anything to you but my favourite football team is the BC Lions and their colours are orange and black!

I can hardly wait for the pictures of the canning of those great looking beans.

Ok I just wondered - I got 2 of those at Walmart right after Halloween a few years ago a black one & an orange one. The orange one is identical to yours except it has jack-o-lanterns around it & the black one has a couple skulls. I thought maybe you took them off yours... I guess I have Witches Pots then

That's what I love about you southern gals! There's a pride taken when you reach up and grab a mason jar full of gorgeous veggies (or whatever) you have done yourself rather than a tin can full of salt and chemicals from Wallyworld.
Thanks UP!  Love looking at my "treasures"!  AND the things I have grown myself too.

They are soaking to get the dirt off right now.  Going to post new pics in a sec of the garden today.

OK,  Kat, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but since you asked.....

You know us SMF folks will jump at any opportunity to show off pics!

I think you are especially awesome for canning your own green beans!  I haven't learned to pressure can yet, only hot water canning.  And I have the opposite of a green thumb....I can actually kill mint and rosemary.  So I am very impressed with you on both accounts!  Go, girl!

Can't wait to see the pics of your canned beauties all lined up on the counter!

Clarissa

Clarissa those look wonderful!  Yummmmm!  Pressure canning is easy....I know you could do it!  I am lucky and have both of my Grand-Mother's canners....they are the good heavy ones.  The ones out these days are not as heavy of a gauge of metal.

No probs.....love to see anyone's canning efforts!

Kat

first 6 quart jars are in the canner now.  Have 6 more waiting....and looking for more quart jars in my hiding place.  This bushel is going to make a bunch!  Here is ma Mama's pressure canner still working well.

Came upstairs to look for jars...so I figured I would show yall the progress.

Kat

Do you think about how your Grandma is smiling down while you are using her pressure canner? Shame your girls are not there to help you and learn.
Jessica was here yesterday and helped me snap all of them.  Jennifer is at work right now.  Trust me....she will get a snoot full tonight.  I have 20 more jars to go and the canner will fit 6 quarts at a time.

Yup Foam....Mama would love it and my Papa would with the garden and smoking meats too.  Good to keep up the family things.

Kat

I love that pressure cooker. My mom had one like it!

Disco
I do have another one that was Granny's....but my stove cant hold both of them...and the gasket on it doesn't fit as well.  I like this one too....its just the right size for me.  The other one is taller....and I am a shorty.  So I would have to stand on a step stool to put the jars in it.

You girls are Awesome, doing that canning!!!

Mrs Bear doesn't do any canning-----She's to busy being a crocheting machine!!

You just reminded me, I need some jar tongs....... DOH!

I have Mom's pressure pot but I don't much use it. If it ain't a water bath that is a lot of work!
Waterbath is quicker...but we have always pressure canned these.  I am waiting now for the canner to cool so I can take these out and put the next round in.  Up here looking for more jars!

I found my latest jar tongs at Wally world.

Bear....I understand that....the ladies at my shop are quilt-a-holics!  After work...that is the last thing I wanna do is play with fabrics.  So....I cook!  Each one of us have fun with our hobbies...don't we?  When I am cooking/grilling/smoking/canning/baking what ever....I am a happy camper.  Just wish someone else would clean up the mess!
