at what IT do you pull tri-tip?

i want to try it and just need to know what temp to cook till? i have been reading everything between 135 and 170 so i have no idea...
 
Well it kind of depends on how you like your beef cooked, rare to well will make a big difference in IT's.
I like my beef med/rare so I will take it to 125-130 unless I'm going to give it a hot sear at the end then it only goes to about 120 or a little below.


You noticed I kept saying beef because we don't get tri tips around here and all you people keep showing pics and I am getting really jealous!!!

We just did Tri Tip steaks (looks like they were a roast cut into 3-4 inch width pieces) on the grill last night. Took them to 118° IT then a quick hot sear and let them rest about 10 minutes. They had perfectly done for us. 

I have learned from reading about Tri Tip on here that if you take it much about medium it will toughen up.
 
I usually pull mine at 130*, we like ours on the rare side.
