I am trying to find a good charcoal/wood smoker/grill for myself to use around my house for friends and family, no competitions, I need suggestions to some good units. I don't want a little tiny unit and nothing too big as I won't need a large amount of cooking space. I had discovered one that had my attention but recently discovered the company is no longer in business, it was the New Braunfels Longhorn Deluxe Smoker. Does anyone have suggestions?

I recommend the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker.  Either the 18.5 or 22.5.

To grill with it you can either put the charcoal ring on the second grate and cook on the top, or remove the mid section and place the cooking grate onto the lower bowl right over the charcoal ring.  I've done this many times when crisping chicken skin.  The Rock's Stoker web site even has tabs that secure the lid on the lower bowl to create the "little black egg".
