New guy with an old stick burner in Tomball, Tx

Not to rob the OP's thread but have you continued to use this? I just picked up one pretty close to your design. I posted it on here. I haven't used it yet. Thing is huge. Just wondering if you use the vertical chamber more than the dual lid cooking chamber?

We have high 60s low 70s coming. Cloud cover is going to make the difference. You get humid there in SC? You get humidity over there in SC right??

With that rain I could do some weather in the 50's!! I run hot. I've got a large fan blowing on me outside now 😁

Got it covered in oil and getting it seasoned. 85* outside today. Feels like 100🔥 Not sure how accurate the thermos are. So far it's been burning for roughly 30min.

When I finished I was covered in a mess. I started putting everything away and realized that same mess had gotten all over the side of my garage wall behind me. That's when the second cleanup started lol.

I had a lot of family that were roughnecks. They worked in the fields before that. Most of them came from Mckey, Vian and Tahlequah Oklahoma. Both sides ended in up in Bakersfield lol. We had a saying in Bakersfield. Oklahoma took over Bakersfield and never fired a shot lol.

Makes sense. The shaker piece came from good ol Bakersfield CA. Along with some core samples and a massive drill bit. Took 3 guys to load that bit. The piece from the shaker was in a rock and cement bbq setup. The metal on the shaker is pretty thick. I can see why now. Thanks for the info!

Yeah this damn handle is supposed to be 1/2" inner diameter but it's a hair over 3/8". Handle rod is right at 1/2". Only option I had for a handle. This was an event. My hands are dead. I'm done.

My uncle also gave me this. He said it came from a hopper or shaker or something like that they used for mud. Then someone made an adjustable bbq grill out of it. I was going to cut it up for a firebox grate but probably best to keep it together. Maybe that will be a different thread 😂😂😂

Those chamber grates were a tough clean. I gave up after a while. Got that coal grate from my uncle. He got it from the oil fields. No clue what it went to but it's thick steel.

Well I had a chance to clean out the Train aka Old Glory today. Underneath that foil was about an hours worth of scraping and pressure washing sludge and rust out. Lawd what a mess. The firebox had a lot of rust. This thing was definitely never covered. Going to be fun ordering a legit cover. Oh...

    Fire brick?

I use 1/2" expanded metal on my regular bbq grill tops because veggies fall through the regular grates. I'll post a pic of my propane grill with that size of expanded metal on it. I use the same for my charcoal grill top. I just bought an old brinkmann offset that has regular grill grate tops in...
